Hotel Type

Design Hotel

It's often touted as the most stylish design hotel in the capital city, located in a re-purposed 60s building that's not your usual super-gilded hotel palace found in Moscow. Spa Hotel Pokrovka by Mamaison Hotels and Resorts should not to be confused with UK-based Malmaison, albeit with a similar boutique concept but by the luxury boutique arm Orco Property Group who balances Russian luxury with whimsical western design " at least on the inside.

Sadly, the drive-up appeal of this late-90s property that opened in 2007 won't win any Pritzker awards, but the lobby fairs better with stark white columns, couture drapery and in-house Number Bar lined in ornate marble floors with 6-foot oriental lamps and brown tufted leather sofas with stiletto marks from parties that lure Moscow's under-30 elite. An avante grade eatery looks like a psychedelic dream with porcelain Chinese vases, abstract metallic balls strewn from the ceiling and veiny marble floors that require a stiletto disclaimer.

Common areas have been completed overhauled with a frilly deco-spin on modern design that's usually clad in textured upholstery like crushed velvet of pinstriped leather. An on-site spa offers a long lap pool and full massage and sauna facility with affordable options for facials and massages.
The Room

A sophisticated design eye arrivse to Hotel Pokrovka with sensory overload, from the inconsistent light and dark marble floors to the cushy lounge area and quirky architecture that’s really been made the very most of despite the judgmental eye. Room doors are opened with some apprehension and then a sigh of relief, the room is far better than even the lobby, with a more-muted and slightly-better translation of modern design from cherry wood floor that line the room to tasteful linen drapes that hang on the walls. Some rooms feature separated living and sleeping area, divided by a wall mounted TV that swivels from bedroom to living room. Bathrooms look almost identical to Orco other work in Hvar and Budapest with porcelain tile floors, integrated shower/tub combination and chunky counter-mounted sinks that are the picture of goo design even if their lacking in the typical white or black marble most luxury travelers expect.
